Diet for constipation during pregnancy

By admin | July 7, 2009

Here are some general recommentdations for relieving constipation whilst pregnant:

Drink Fuilds

The process of digestion requires, among other things, water in orderto help keep the faeces soft or else the process will slow down, as the faeces will become hard and difficult to pass, and the intestine is less able do its job.

You should aim for at least six glasses of fluid, ideally water, per day. Some good supplements include af fruit juice, but try and cut down on how much coffee you ingest.

A certain amount of fibre is important  since it stimulates the intestines to work harder and also absorbs liquid, ensuring that the faeces do not dry out, but remain soft. The following types of food contain lots of fibre. It is a good idea to eat a variety of these foods every day even if you are not suffering from constipation during pregnancy:

    * fruit    * vegetables    * wholemeals    * breakfast cereals    * prunes and/or prune juice
