What use is an abdominal muscle?

By admin | January 30, 2009

The body needs abdominal muscle to hold it together.  Like staves around a barrel, the muscle groups in the chest wall hold us together and help keep everything in place.

If these muscles are not kept in shape by way of exercise, they will allow the abdomen to sag and create a “pot belly” among other unpleasant problems.  Back pain can be directly caused by poor posture due to lack of conditioning in the abdominal area.

Muscle is similar to a large rubber band.  If that rubber band is stretched beyond its limits, it will either break or become over worked and lose its elasticity.  Comparing this with the abdominal muscles of the human torso will show how over stretching these muscles will create “sag” and loss of muscle tone.
