Aquarium Water Treatment for Fish Tanks

By admin | October 8, 2009

A common practice among people is to use tap water for their fish tanks.  Although it may be safe for humans, the added chemicals to ensure the safety of the water to drink can be lead to opposite reactions when it comes to using regular tap water for your fish tank.  Chemicals such as chlorine or chloramines, which are used to kill bacteria in water, can be lethal in large doses to your pet.  Rusty old pipes which tap water runs through can also be deadly.  In this case, tap water must be carefully treated using the right aquarium water treatment before being used in a fish tank.  Tap water can also be affected by the change in climate.  Bacteria in water are more commonplace during summer as compared to the winter season.  Because of this, many public water treatment facilities use more chlorine in the summertime than in any other season. The best thing to do in this situation is to make sure the water, especially in the case of tap water, is in the proper condition for your fish to live in.  Doing this will avoid future problems for both you and your fish.
